Waste not want not micro residency | Shade Gallery Brixton.
The Brixton watershed mediates two oceans: water from the Great Rift Valley is dealt between the cool Atlantic ocean, and the warmer Indian ocean as it runs underneath Brixton. Inspired by the way things come to differentiate themselves, we focused our visual process on reflection and analogue projection - the spitting of light through plastic bottles to form new images.
In rehearsals we worked through songs from both our compositions curating transitions between them. Our set had no start or end... the music came to represent the movement of water flowing between songs and the things that aid and inhibit movement. Returning to motif's periodically or getting stuck on them until, dislodged, we can move on.
Inspired by the Brixton Lights Festival title: 'Where the light meets the water'.
